Professional Building Systems is a modular home manufacturer that builds systems built homes in North Carolina. Located in Mt. Gilead, North Carolina, PBS started operations in the year 2004. Production began in May of the same year. Their NC facility is made up of approximately 200,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing area, which is located on 220 acres.
Building a home in separate sections, or modules, within the controlled environment of a factory is what modular construction is all about. Theses homes are built in different stages from flooring to final product. Framing, insulation, lighting fixtures, roofing, windows, siding, cabinetry, floor treatments, plumbing and drywall are all installed and completed by craftsmen skilled in utilizing state-of-the-art production technology. The modular home is the shipped ninety percent complete to the building site where it is assembled on a foundation. Usually only minimal on site construction is needed.
Due to the fact that construction delays are a rarity, and that there is less building time required, the costs per square foot in a modular home might be less than a site-built house. Since modular homes are energy saving, furnace and air conditioning bills can be much lower. Yearly utility bills could be lower than half of those compared to site-built housing in short because modular homes are usually better insulated and airtight. The ability to control dust, humidity, allergens and outdoor sound is also better than site-built homes.
